Jinks Pottery School

Jinks Pottery is a community outreach teaching space in the heart of Brighton, created to offer a holistic, caring, calm and slow space to learn and experience clay.

We teach on only five wheels so that students receive the individual attention they need to feel held in every class.

Each person's progress is their own journey and their own experience. It is an honor to offer pottery and clay as a medium of growth.

In a taster session you will learn how to prep and manage your clay, how to centre clay on the wheel, to pull walls and form cylinders and bowls.

You will also learn about clay types, firing types, stages of clay and how a pottery studio functions.

You save your best pot; we trim, fire and glaze it for you in the studio. We’ll let you know when your pot is available for collection.

Tasters

The beginners six-week class is a perfect second step from the taster.

We examine in more depth: clay choices, throwing forms in weights and measurements, trimming and glazing, bowl shapes and plate forms, tea bowls and handles.

You get to trim and glaze your own pieces.

The intermediate class further expands on throwing styles, hand holds, sizes of throwing, complex throwing such as closed forms and lidded jars. We look at slip application and more unusual glazing techniques.

This class is a perfect step up from beginners, and would prepare you for a life as a potter.

Men's Group

This group meets once a month on a Monday night and is focused on flow state throwing for men's health, which means that after we talk, we throw in silence.

The sessions promote a safe space to speak and share and learn to throw on the wheel, encouraging difficult conversation in a healing space. My desire to offer these sessions stems from my volunteering at Samaritans and my ongoing counselling training.

Please contact me if you would like to be included. These sessions are free and space is limited, you can book by emailing me.
