Teaching ethos~
Jinks Pottery was created to offer a holistic, caring, calm and slow space to learn and experience clay. I teach on only five wheels and this way students receive the individual attention they need to feel held in every class. Each persons progress is their own journey and their own experience. It is an honor to offer pottery and clay as a medium of growth and as a mental health space.
The classes~
In a Taster session you will learn how to prep and manage your clay, how to center clay on the wheel, to pull walls and form cylinders and bowls. You will also learn about clay types, firing types, stages of clay and how a pottery studio functions. You save your best pot and I trim and fire it for you in the studio Moon white glaze. This is not your average Taster class.
The Beginners six week class is a perfect second step from the Taster and expands it by examining in more depth clay choices, throwing forms in weights and measurements, trimming and glazing, bowl shapes and plate forms, tea bowls and handles.
You get to trim and glaze yourr pieces.
The Intermediate class further expands on throwing styles, hand holds, sizes of throwing, complex throwing such as closed forms and lidded jars. We look at slip application and glazing techniques such as Hakeme brush application. This class is a perfect step from Beginners, and would prepare you for a life as a potter.
The Men's Health Group~
This group meets once a month on a Monday night and is focused on Flow state throwing for mens health, which means that after we talk we throw in silence. It promotes a safe space to talk and share and learn to throw on the wheel, encouraging difficult conversation in a healing space. My desire to offer these sessions stems from my volunteering at Samaritans and my ongoing counselling training. Please contact me if you would like to be included, these sessions are free and space is limited, you can book by emailing me.
