New projects;
I am audio editing a group of interviews for the Sharjah Biennale 15, commisioned by one of the curators. Deeply satisfying to clean up and absorb the content through repetitive surgical editing, removing pauses, umms and ahhhs, repetitions. All Protools and UAD.

At the same time I’m working on a mix and master for a short film for Chicago based filmmaker Danny Carroll titled ‘Ragu’ This involves importing the .aff into Protools, mixing levels, fixing transitions, room tones, reverbs, adding EQ, and mixing FX for presence and impact. A lot of time is spent thinking about what the audience experiences and what a given scene needs to heighten the moment, and also what a scene does not need, i.e a removal of diegetic audio to allow actors space in the mix.
It’s a very surgical process, as any glitch in audio halts the cinematic suspension of disbelief and wrenches us back to a reality space, cinematic audio can be very unforgiving and make or break the accompanying image.

Lastly there are plans afoot for a final visit to Venice in October to document the closing performances and ceremonies for Jeffrey Gibsons installation in the American Pavillion of the Biennale. This will be my fifth visit to Venice to help document Jefferys’ amazing work there, for Media Hour who are making a documentary about Gibsons moment-us rise in the art world. Such a pleasure to work on this project, whether audio production or video, it’s great to be light on the feet and high in quality creating content for what will be a super interesting work, produced by Chelsea Knight. On the last trip there it became apparent to me how at ease I was with the airport and the water taxis and where to find the best pizza :) my morning coffee routines, such a privelidge to learn a city through work, I’m always stimulated by sound and image in Venice.
